CERAMIC EXPERIMENTS
by Gabriela Rozenberg
Welcome to my clay world, where I combine whimsical weirdness to create my own interpretation of reality.
I love making unique hand built sculptural pieces that make a statement while making you smile... a special world you can step into and enjoy. Pouring my feelings into a lump of clay and turning it into a sculpture feels magical and freeing, and this is what I want you to feel when you see and touch my pieces. My works include figurative sculptures, masks, portrait sculptures, as well as jewelry and even some functional pieces. A lot of my inspiration comes from my favourite artists, particularly Pop Surrealists, from my childhood memories from Argentina and my scientific career, but also from unique shapes and colours I find in nature or other interesting and seemingly random things around me that catch my eye. Working with clay is my way to deal with everyday chaos and to express my subconscious in unexpected ways. Sometimes I have a clear idea about the thought behind a piece; other times there is a strong feeling driving me to create, but it’s not until the piece comes out of the kiln from the final glaze firing that I realise the very obvious and deep meaning behind it. My greatest reward is when my sculptures manage to evoke intense or interesting feelings and thoughts in the viewer, even if they are completely different to mine… But more than anything art is my passion, it makes me happy, and I hope my art will make you happy too.
I still haven’t set up my shop in New Zealand, sorry, but you can see what I am up to on Instagram @ooohclay. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you are interested in a special piece.
Have an awesome day,
Gaby
